Law Abiding Citizens

I hope your day is going great for you. I was reading in the Bible yesterday and I read this text out of 1 Timothy 1:8-11 and it caused me to stop for a moment and think about some things. It says, “We know that the law is good IF a man use it lawfully. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.”

What was I thinking? Well because of some recent events in our life it caused me to wonder what society would be like if we just lived by the law, [word of God], which compels us to “do right” and to love our friends and neighbors. I hadn’t been thinking much about it but when my wife and I were challenged by someone who was trying to steal some of our finances, I was amazed at how this individual tried so hard to “bend” the law to fit his argument. Notice it said, “…the law is good IF a man use it LAWFULLY.” The condition was clearly stated after the word “if,” that says the outcome depends on the “man” and how he uses the law!

After all was said and done in our experience we came out victorious, but the situation was nasty! We know the laws of our country are designed to protect all of us, but there are those who try every way conceivable to “loophole” their way through life. The motivation is always the same selfishness, greed, hatred, and many others I’m sure. We simply wanted what was right! We wanted the law to protect us but some of the time we felt as though we had to prove our innocence instead of “until proven guilty” as our rights are stated.

It seemed crazy to us because everything was spelled out in “black and white” on papers legally filed with the government. Yet we had to prove every “dotted ‘I’ and crossed ‘T’” Then I began to realize some things about what Paul told Timothy in the verses I gave you to start this blog, if I do what’s right according to the gospel and not get all crazy with the situations that come our way sometimes, then in the end, even in this old world we live in God’s law will prevail! Just obey the laws of the land and God’s law and all things will work out for the good. We plan to be Law Abiding Citizens according to God’s law and man!

So what do you think about it…

Peace,

RB

It’s January 2007, another year in the making. We want to start out good, and progressively get better until we end up with God’s best! I can’t help it I know it’s coming to us by the grace of God. I’ve read some “predictions” for 2007 recently and they are forcasting some heavy changes this year on a worldwide basis. There is a lot of turmoil in the world, lots of concerns for the future, lots of instability on a global front. Some of the most talked about concerns seems to be “global warming” and “global economy.”

I don’t know all about what’s going on everywhere in the world, but I do know what Psalm 33 says. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” We’re praying for REVIVAL in America! May you have a prosperous, healthier, new year filled with all the blessings of God. The apostle John wrote in one of his last letters, “beloved I wish above all things that you would prosper, and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” That’s going from good, to better, all the way to God’s best! May that be what happens for you this New Year!

Blessings,

RB
